...Being a full-time graduate student, with an internship, a part-time job, and a household to keep from crumbling down has finally tapped all of my reserves. I know this to be the case because my "Things to Blog About" list, which has never had more than a few items, is now over thirty subjects long, and I have missed my daily devotions: visits to all the blogs on my sidebar and several others that will added as soon as I can get some time to update my template.
My list includes:
- Thoughts and reflections on my recent GOTV activities
- A tribute to the Haymarket martyrs, condemned to death by hanging on November 11, 1887
- The anniversary of the founding of the Congress of Industrial Organizations which officially occurred TODAY (!) in 1938
- My feelings on voluntary blood donation
- An update on the situation on Oaxaca
- A loving (and now belated) birthday post for my partner
- The comedy and tragedy of driving a car with more than 190,000 miles on the odometer
- My cornbread-stuffed portobello cap recipe and why I haven't cooked a full Thanksgiving Dinner in the last five years
- The REAL Thanksgiving story
- and more
As Dan says, the light at the end of the tunnel isn't a train. Exactly three weeks from today, I will have turned in the projects and papers I have yet to start and taken all of my final exams. Around here, that's "T minus 21."
In the meantime, postings at this site will probably be light. Oh, and if your statcounter records any activity from an ISP address belonging to California State University, San Bernardino, well, that's probably me pretending to be taking notes on Micro Practice. I love you guys, and not even my devotion to my educational experience can keep me away.

It sounds too busy for me Melissa. Hang in there and don't over-do it because it's not worth it. I know. :)
I'll keep an eye out for your entries. Take care.
Me clutches his chest and screams: OMG, Honey! We've been invaded by Cal St.! Grab the cats and RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!
A word of advice/comfort from an old fool: Forget the blogs for now; get that degree. THEN....come back to the blogs. You will discover a "source of study" that will have your dissertations alongside Sigmund Fraud in just weeks!
And no, that light isn't a train. The one where you find out what entry level pay is on your first "in field" pay, is...(:
And we miss you, too. Anybody that makes sense around here is always missed.:) Cheers, a truckload of caffeine, and a hearty "I know you've got it in you!"
I totally agree with what these guys have said. I have to admire somebody as busy as you who still finds the time for QUALITY posts. Hang in there kiddo.
Human behavior and social enviornmilzorent? Looking forward to some posting about THAT.
Having at one time been there and done that, I would totally agree with The future was yesterday's advice. The blog can wait and we'll all be here for like ever for you.
Take care of yourself and do what you can. That's all anyone will ever ask of you. :)
OMG, your to-do list had my head spinning. I've given up on lists. I never seem to finish 'em, anyway. But I know what you mean about the daily rounds of blogs. I HAVE to do that. They have become my fix. And I start jonesing if I don't feed my habit.
Case has offered you fine words of wisdom. I might add that chill out is what the world needs now. Sing along! "What the world needs now- is to chill the f**k out..."
Another been there/done that. The end WILL happen. However, my advice is a little different. Take a little time for yourself to de-stress every now and again. And if blogging or visiting the blogs helps you destress, do that. If not, we'll be here when you get back!
Melissa, I agree with the others on this one. You're stretched way too thin & it will eventually take its toll so take some time away and chill, my friend. It's impossible to do everything.
Not to worry, we'll still be around & you are definitely worth waiting for! :-) Cheers!
I've booked a number of sessions with my shrink. When she asks me what's wrong I'll just tell her, "Mel's not available."
Good luck and cheers!
don't go too far away! i'm drooling over your list, on the edge of my seat. :) here's to less stressful days FOR YOU!
Mel, I have also been there and done that. Grad school while a cop while a parent of three (inluding am 8 month old)while a basketball coach for the two teams of my other daughters while....
Stay the course! (School, not Iraq...lol) As crazy as it is and as deprived you feel of time and energy, in a short time it will all be pleasant memories. Your fans will still be here, so take it a day at a time and you will reap the rewards!
Does this make TWO things we have in common? Geesh.....I gota see a doctor.
Johnny-come-lately here; I can't add anything to what all of these fine bloggers have already said...except, you'll notice I take a self imposed hiatus every so often - I highly recommend them.
I just came back and looked at the cartoon. I needed the laugh. Thanks.
