I just finished up a powerpoint for a class presentation that's due on Tuesday, so I'm taking a break to respond to this tag by Quaker Dave.
Name a book that you want to share so much that you keep giving away copies:
The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran and The History of Colors/La Historia de los Colores by Subcomandante Marcos. The first is my standard graduation present. The second is my standard baby shower gift. Forget diaper pins and cute bibs. It's never too early to start learning about the EZLN.
Name a piece of music that changed the way you listen to music: Bread and Roses by Utah Phillips. I wasn't raised listening to protest music, but now I am an avid collector.
Name a film you can watch again and again without fatigue: I'm a graduate student! Who has time to watch movies?? When I can, these are good ones, in no particular order: Frida, A Christmas Story, If These Walls Could Talk, The Princess Bride.
Name a performer for whom you suspend all disbelief: Jim Croce.
Name a work of art you'd like to live with: I'm not picky. I'll take any of Diego Rivera's murals.
Name a work of fiction which has penetrated your real life: Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. It was shortly after reading this book that I went to intern with PCUN, Oregon's farmworker union.
Name a punch line that always makes you laugh: "Let's go to the mattresses."
Okay...Kara, Fernando, Blue, and Dan...you're "it."

That's a VERY interesting shower gift...
Wow, I have to concur with Quaker Dave re: the shower gift. I liked the gods drinking and smoking cigarettes. You know there's an awfully cute bib that says "An owie to one is an owie to all", the old Wobblies motto modified.
Updated disclaimer: I do not support or encourage anyone to smoke, infant or otherwise...Smoking is unhealthy and noone should do it. Naturally, the soon-to-be parents who would be recipients of this book will use it at their own discretion, and are all radical pacifists like myself. :)
I like this post. Who came up this tagging game.
Melissa,
Sorry OT...
Yes- on the haloscan. I had halo scan for nearly a year, until a few months ago when I switched to Blogger Beta and they have just made it possible to download the template to interchange with blogger and I am very happy to be back with Haloscan. It is very adaptable and you can design it so very many ways... Try it out. you will like it.
Peace.
I've been tagged! I'll get right on it...gimme a day or two! =)
Good luck with that presentation!
For me, Jethro Tull's "Thick as a Brick" changed the way I listen to music.
I suspend all disbelief whenever I see or hear an American Idol winner. I just can't believe it.
Melissa, might I suggest a GREAT movie that will give anyone not only entertainment but also education as to the early union days of the mine workers. It is "Matewan" and trust me on this, it will mesmerize you. It is a John Sayles movie and utterly impossible to watch without falling on your knees and thanking these men for their sacrifices.
BTW, I agree with the Haloscan thing comment. So much easier.
