Verdict: Guilty

Today, Colin Finnerty, one of the Duke students facing sexual assualt and kidnapping charges, was convicted in an attack on two gay men in Washington DC, in spite of the fact that he says he didn't do it and a family priest testified as a character witness. His punishment? Six months probation and a fine of $500. Oh, and he has to promise to stay enrolled in his ivy league school full-time and not venture into the Georgetown neighborhood anymore. That will teach him not to beat up gay people. Read the story here.

Good thing he comes from a nice, white, Catholic family and was only found guilty of gay bashing and not some serious crime, like tax evasion, a federal felony which carries with it lengthy prison terms.

Oh, and check out this website offering prayers of support to the accused.

Yeah, I know. What's $500 to a kid who's annual tuition and living expenses are estimated to be $45,000?

Let's see, gay bashing and sexual assault on a woman...Maybe next month this guy can run over an undocumented worker with his SUV and flee the scene or something. That way, at least we can say that he's an equal opportunity hater.

His parents must be so proud.

I think "rich" is the key word here.

And that web site is nauseating.

Dave,

Thanks for adding that adjective to the mix! I was sure I had mentioned the "rich" part, but when rereading, realized it mas missing from my post. It just seems so obvious that I must have simply taken it for granted!

My bad. :)
