...my 89 year-old, house-bound grandmother in rural Kansas. For one week. I've visited before, and the fact that there are no visible mountains and the rivers run brown is enough to make sure that I won't research vacation properties while I'm there.I pray for the brains to navigate the cheap itinerary I've made myself, one whose airport connections and Google map directions would baffle a Ph.D candidate.
I pray for the courage to face the racist, Republican onslaught, especially if I accidently drive by anyone from the Westboro Baptist Church.
I also pray for the heart to love my grandmother in all ways, through my thoughts and actions, even if this means that I have to give myself canker sores by continuously biting my tongue for the next seven days.
There's no internet connection where I'm going, so I'll see you all when I come home again.

Have fun, be safe, hug your granny often and hard (not too hard). Anyone who gets to 89 deserves nothing less.
Watch out for the wingnuts. I read that book... yeesh.
it is a good, good thing that you do. be brave- be strong. be grateful when you return to civilization. :)
