Memories

I pause today to remember the men and women,
of all nationalities, whose lives have been snuffed out
because of the horrors of war. I remember all lives lost,
military and civilian. I remember the widows and the orphans.
I remember those wounded in action, and those who have been
wounded as innocent bystanders. The slain are mourned
in all languages. American deaths are not
more tragic than the deaths of those we've fought against.
I also remember the victims of undeclared social wars,
both domestic and foreign. There are heros who have fought
for freedom who have never worn a uniform.
Mostly, I pray for peace.
